Finally Finished

I read the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by J.K. Rowling. Harry potter is just a normal kid gets bullied in his orphanage all of the time. Then suddenly he starts getting all of these random letters. Harry figures out that he is a wizard. Harry leaves the orphanage and attends Hogwarts. He finds out at Hogwarts that his parents were great wizards. Then Harry hears about the stone. Voldemort is after the stone, too. The two of them have a big fight in the end over the stone. I won’t tell you the ending so you will have to read it and find out. This book takes forever. It is way too long. I do not plan on reading any of J.K. Rowling’s books. It is very slow. I kept thinking it was going to get better but it never. I do like the story of when and how she wrote the book though. I wouldn’t recommend this book because I wasn’t a huge fan of fantasy before this book but now I don’t think I will ever read another fantasy book again. I do not see what people like about Harry Potter. This book is way too far fetched and J.K. Rowling isn’t the best author either.

So Close!

I read the book Runaway Storm but D.E. Knobbe. This book is about Nate who lives in New York but is going to Canada by himself while his mom and her boyfriend go to Italy. He is going to Canada to meet his Dad but when his dad isn’t there he takes his dads kayak and goes out into the ocean. He meets a family of runaways and a goth girl named Lily. He also meets drug smugglers who hold him captive. Will he get away from them? I liked this books writing style because it was in first person andI like that. This is one of the best books I have ever read. It keeps you hooked from beginning to the end. I have never read a book as good as this one. I would recommend this book to anyone. It does use some bad language so I wouldn’t recommend it someone who isn’t mature enough to read it.

Halfway There

I read the book Sure Fire by Jack Higgins. It is about twins whose mom dies in a car accident so they have to go live with there dad. There dad seeems like a low life but when they catch him sneaking off every night they figure out there dad is actually a secret agent for Britain. When there dad gets abucted it is there job to go all the way to Russia to save him. This book was really interesting. I loved the whole thing cover to cover. It is in third person which I don’t like as well but it was still good. I would recommend this book to anyone in fith grade and above because it might be a little confusing to anyone below that age.

248 Pages Done!!

This week I finished the book Painting the Black by Carl Deuker. I would rate this book a 8 out of 10. A minor character that had major importance in the book would be Ryan’s Grandpa. Without his grandpa I do not think Ryan would have made the school baseball team because his throw down to second would not have been fast enough and he would not have had the propper catching skills to make the team either. The authors purpose of this book was to show that one little mistake could make your whole world turn upside down. The intended audience of this book is youg adults to adults who enjoy baseball. If you don’t enjoy baseball I don’t think you would enjoy this book as much as I did.

Painting the Black

I am currently reading the book Painting the Black by Carl Deuker. He is my all time favorite author. I still have 100 pages left in the book right now. So far Ryan, a senior, just got a new neighbor his age over the summer. His name is Josh.  He is a great athlete and they play catch everyday.  But when Josh goes out for the football team and Ryan can’t because of an old ankle injury Ryan gets angry but still supports his friend. Josh starts falling into the wrong crowd towards the middle of football season and gets into trouble. He is the star quarterback and he gets suspended for the biggest game of the year. That is as far as I have read so far. I think that in the end they will both try out for the school baseball team and win the state championship.

Finally Finished

I read the book Swindle by Gordon Korman. This book is about a boy named Griffin Bing. His family has money troubles and he is determined to get them out of it. One night he comes across a signed Babe Ruth card but has no idea who he is or what the card is worth. So he goes to a trade store and sells them the card for only $60. Only later does he find out that the card is being sold at an auction and the starting price begins at $300,000. The rest of the book is about Griffin’s secret plots to getting the card back in his control and his family out of debt.

This is not the best book I have ever read because it is a little far fetched. The theme of this book is never trust strangers. This book is for someone who is looking for a good read not a for a research paper. I think the author fully achieved his purpose in this book. I found this book very interesting and it kept me hooked the entire book.

I would recommend this book to anyone of all ages. No matter how old you are this book will keep you entertained the entire time. It has a very good plot and great characters. I could relate to a few of the characters because they seemed to have the same personality as me or my friends.

200 Left!!!

I read the book The Batboy by Mike Lupica. In this Book Brian Dudley is the batboy for the Detroit Tigers. His dad used to play for the Tigers. But his dad ran out on him a long time ago. But since then everything has been good. Now things are getting better when his favorite baseball player ever gets traded to the Tigers. But he is not the man that Brian thought he was. From there it all goes downhill for Brian. Especially when his dad comes home from Japan.

I don’t like this books writing style because it is in third person but it is still a good book. It is not the best book I have ever read because I don’t like the ending but it is still one of the best books I have read. I do not think this is a book for someone to read who does not understand baseball because the author uses baseball terms a lot.

I would recommend this book to anyone who understands baseball. The author uses a lot of baseball lingo that someone who doesn’t play baseball or softball would not understand. I would also recommend this book to anyone in middle school because I think it gets a little too deep for someone who is not in middle school.

Almost There

I read the book Hero by Mike Lupica for my 1,200 page challenge. In this book Zach Harriman thinks he is an ordinary kid whose dad works for the President. Again, he THINKS he’s an ordinary kid. But when his dad’s plane mysteriously crashes and kills him, Zach is determined to figure out who did it. On his way he will figure out why is just not some ordinary kid. He will instead figure out what his true powers really are. This book is science fiction and at first I thought I wouldn’t like it because I don’t like science fiction books most of the time. Well, this book changed my mind. The theme of this book is to always trust your true family.

I don’t usually like 3rd person writing but this book was very good. The first couple chapters really grab your attention and the book is never boring. It is always exciting. I think this is the best book I have ever read. I think this because for one it was the fastest I’ve ever read a book in my life. Secondly, the book is never boring, and it is an easy read. I think this author totally achieved his purpose in the book.

I would recommend it to anyone 6th grade and up because I think it would be kind of hard to read for a sixth grader. I would recommend this book because it keeps you interested the whole book. I would also recommend this book because you want to find out between two characters who’s good and who’s bad. (You’ll get what I mean if you read the book.) The third reason I would recommend this book is because in my opinion Mike Lupica is the best author I have ever read.

Rivalry By: John Feinstein

I read the book Rivalry By John Feinstein. Stevie and Susan Carol are known for uncovering huge mysteries at sporting events. Well this book is no different. They are at the Army vs. Navy game. The jets have flown over, the president has made his appearance, and the refs are set, but something isn’t right.

I would not recommend this book because it takes forever to get the point. It is in third person and the ending isn’t very good but I can’t tell you what happens. I do not think the author reached his purpose. I think he couldn’t think of any other explanation to the ending. I think this book was a waste of time to read. I found this book dull and boring. Do not read this book.

Starting out Strong

I read the book Runner by Carl Deuker. In this book Chance and his dad are not wealthy. In fact, they are the farthest thing from it. They live on a boat in a marina in Seattle, Washington. Chance is looking for a little extra money when a man from the front office of his marina approaches him with an offer. He would give him $200 to run to a tree and pick up a package. Chance has to bring it back, stuff it in his locker and the next day $200 cash would be there. The real question is, what is in these packages?

This book is in the first person and that is my favorite type of point of view. This isn’t the best book I have ever read but it is a very good book. I like this writing style and everything about the book. I think the author fully achieved his purpose, even though I didn’t like the ending.

I would definitely recommend this book to people because it kept me hooked the entire time. There was never a boring moment. I would also recommend this book to people because it has a great theme. Lastly, I would recommend this book because it is very suspenseful.
